Most computer failures give a warning first. If you notice any of these signs, it is a good time to have the machine checked.
1. It has become very slow
A computer that takes minutes to start or freezes while you work may have a full drive, too little memory, unwanted programs running, or a failing hard disk.
2. The fan is loud all the time
Fans get loud when dust blocks the airflow and the machine cannot cool itself. Cleaning the dust often fixes it.
3. It gets very hot or shuts down by itself
Overheating can make a computer switch off to protect itself. Dust and old thermal paste on the processor are common causes.
4. Strange noises from the hard disk
Clicking or grinding from a traditional hard disk is a serious warning. Copy your important files to another place right away, before the disk stops working.
5. Programs crash or error messages keep appearing
This can come from software faults, a virus, or failing hardware. Finding the real cause is better than reinstalling blindly.
What you can do today
- Back up your important files.
- Do not keep a laptop on a bed or a soft cushion, because it blocks the air vents.
- Book a check-up before the problem gets worse.
